Frederick Robert Schmitt, 80


Frederick Robert Schmitt, 80, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at Lewes Convalescent Center with his wife by his side. He was a 30 year veteran of the U.S. Navy; a senior chief who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. A member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the American Legion Post #28, his military career was never far from his thoughts. He was also a member of Red Mens Lodge #37. After the military, he worked at Townsend Inc. in Millsboro for 12 years. Schmitt was an active leader in the Boy Scouts of America and, due to his efforts, the family was awarded the Del-Mar-Va Council Sussex District Scouting Family of the Year. He was an avid NASCAR fan and a past member of the Sports Car Club of America.

Services were scheduled for Sunday, June 3, 2007, with interment in Bethel Methodist Cemetery in Lewes. The family suggests memorial donations to Conley’s United Methodist Church Building Fund, 22150 Robinsonville Rd., Lewes DE 19958.
