Lois J. Tucker, 71, of Selbyville, Del., formerly of Columbia, Md., passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at the Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. She was a high school physical education teacher and also a cheerleading coach at Bowie High School for Prince George’s County, retiring in 1996 after 36 years of service.
Tucker was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lucy (Schweinberg) Matthews; and a daughter, Cynthia Ross. She is survived by her loving husband, Joel Kuharik; her five children, Tracy Leahy and her husband Sean of Annapolis, Md., Paula Moreland and her husband Michael of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Robert Tucker of Lawrenceville, Ga., Carolyn Oler and her husband Rick of Columbia, Md. and Kathryn Tucker of Greenville, S.C.; four stepchildren, Leslie Glickstein, Heather Andaloro, Michael Kuharik and Vincent Kuharik, all of Atlantic City, N.J.; five siblings, Ruth, George, David, Glenn and Paul Matthews, all of the Pittsburgh, Pa. area; 10 grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at noon at St. Matthews By-The-Sea United Methodist Church, Ocean Highway and Dagsboro Street, Fenwick Island, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Links for the Pink Golf Tournament, which benefits the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 1276 Breckenridge Circle, Riva, MD 21140.
