James E. Holleran, 81, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Levittown, Pa., passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, in the Renaissance Health Care Center, Long Neck, Del., while recuperating from heart bypass surgery. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He later moved to Philadelphia, Pa., to work in the music profession, playing the tuba in many area bands and orchestras. He worked as a tool- and die-maker until his retirement in 1989. His passion was music and he also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, clock repair and aeronautics. He was a member of the Long Neck Cheer Center and the VFW Post #0834 in Fallsington, Pa.
Holleran was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel (Daley) Holleran; his wife, Patricia Hoffman Holleran; a son, Michael; his brothers, Charlie and Jack; and sisters, Rita and Lois. He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Colleen McDowell and her husband, Dave, of Millsboro, and their four children, Christian, James, Brent and David; his son, Dr. Daniel Holleran and his wife, LuAnn, of Holland, Pa. and their six children, Stephen, Kevin, Robbie, Keith, Tim and Lauren. In addition, his is survived by his sister, Ethel Schlotter of Bradenton, Fla.; his brother, T. Jerome Holleran of Reading, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Thursday, May 8, 2008, with interment privately held in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 202 Edward’s Street, Georgetown, DE 19947.
