John F. Pentony, 92, of Ocean View, Del., formerly of Lebanon, Pa., passed away Thursday, June 19, 2008, at the Berlin Nursing Home in Berlin, Md. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a radio operator on Tinian Island. He began his career working at his father’s grocery store, where he retired as an assistant manager for the A&P store in Lebanon.
Pentony was preceded in death by his parents, William and Irma (Ashby) Pentony; and a brother, Joseph Pentony. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Ida (Rossi) Allwein Pentony; and will be dearly missed by his daughter, Linda Pentony of Cleveland, Ohio; step-children, Margaret “Peg” Graybill and her husband, Ronald “Ron” Graybill of Ocean Pines, Md., Rose Sangrey and her husband, Robert “Bob” Sangrey, of Akron, Pa., Nancy Nebiker and her husband, Brian, of Ocean View, Frank Allwein of Andover, Ohio and Michael Allwein and his wife, Pat, of Mt. Gretna, Pa; a sister-in-law, Gen of Kingwood, W.Va.; a sister, Margaret “Sally” Wilson and her husband, Nathan, of Paoli, Pa; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service and burial were private.
