The Delaware State Police and Ocean City, Md., police are investigating a death of a black man whose body was found floating in a canal located near Harpoon Hanna’s on Route 54 near Fenwick Island. Police said patrons of Harpoon Hanna’s called 911 at 9:40 p.m. on Friday, July 11, to report finding the body.
A nearby boater also responded, tied a rope around the body and pulled it to shore on the Maryland side, police said. The body has been recovered by authorities and taken to the Maryland medical examiner’s office in Baltimore for an autopsy and identification. According to the DSP, the preliminary investigation did not indicate that any incident had occurred at Harpoon Hanna’s that might have contributed to the death.
The case remained under investigation on Saturday, July 12, and state police said additional details would be provided as they become available.
