Walter T. DeMent, 67, of Frankford, Del., formerly of Washington, D.C., passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He retired as a painter and glazer supervisor for the D.C. government after 28 years of service. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in the D.C. area and a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, Del.
DeMent was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Mary Maude (Disney) DeMent. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Ann (Benvenuto) DeMent; three children, Patrick DeMent and wife, Arlene, of Annandale, Va., Rose Dawson and husband, Douglas, of Frankford, and Joe DeMent of Beltsville, Md.; a brother, Robert Earl DeMent of Thomas, W.Va.; a sister, Vivian A. DeMent, also of W.Va.; five grandchildren, Joshua, Michael and Megan Dawson, and Caroline and Julia Tredeau; two great-grandchildren, Lexus and Sierra Dawson.
A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, with interment in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Christiana Care, 2116 South DuPont Hwy., Camden, DE 19934.
