Edwin King Tilghman, 86, of Delmar, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at his home. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, he went into the insurance business, and then went on to own and operate such businesses as Tilghman’s Home Furnishings, Pizza Corner and South Division Street Market. He was a member of the American Legion and was a member of Joshua’s House Church. One of his greatest pleasures was singing at local churches and nursing homes, spreading the word of the Lord to others.
Tilghman was preceded in death by his parents, King and Elsie Tilghman; his first wife, Peggy Lorraine Tilghman; and a sister, Margaret Virginia Groton. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Barbara C. Tilghman, to whom he would have been married for 14 years on Aug. 14; son, James E. Tilghman and wife, Helen; daughter, Sharon L. Long and husband, Joseph; son, Elton Taylor, daughter, Shirley Taylor; and daughter, Barbara Crockett; his grandchildren, Jennifer Lord and husband, Arthur, Michelle Hamilton and husband, Scott, Jenny Crockett, Melista Crockett, Bryan Taylor and Tuesday Taylor; seven great-grandchildren; and good friend, Jimmy Chandler.
Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, with interment with military honors in Wicomico Memorial Park, Salisbury, Md.
