Daniel E. Jacobs Sr., 78, of Millsboro, Del., affectionately known as “Pop,” passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, Del. Before retiring, he was employed at Mountaire Farms for 27 years and Showell Poultry for eight years. He was a proud member of God’s Family Life Worship Center in Selbyville, Del. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing his guitar and listening to Christian and jazz music.
He loved to laugh but most importantly, he loved the Lord. He found joy in talking about the Lord, his favorite scriptures and telling stories from the Bible. He summed up his many years of wisdom with a timely piece of advice, “Take one day at a time.”
Jacobs was preceded in death by his parents, Cator and Linda Purnell. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Hazel Jacobs; three daughters, Doris Henry and her husband, John, of Georgetown, Del., Hazel Davis and her friend, Augusto “Gus” of Georgetown, and Bertha Mumford and her friend, Elwood Hemmington, of Frankford, Del.; two sons, Glen Jacobs and his wife, Jeanlene “Neenie,” of Frankford, and Daniel “Jake” Jacobs Jr. and his wife, Beatrice, of Seaford, Del.; a sister, Edna Bowens of Trenton, N.J.; four brothers-in-law, Isaac Tingle, Leon Tingle and his wife, Joyce, Jerry Tingle, Robert Tingle and his wife, Sheila, all of Selbyville; a sister-in-law, Juanita Johnson and her husband, Stanley, of Selbyville; a special uncle-in-law, Harold Tingle, who is almost 100 years old and resides in Delmar Nursing Home; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A “going home service” was scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, with interment in Zoar Golden Acres Cemetery, Bishopville, Md.
