Viola Fay Ryan, 86, of Milton, Del., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, in Capitol Health Care, Dover, Del. A lifelong resident of Sussex County, she was in retail clothing sales for much of her life and was also a longtime volunteer at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, Del. She was an avid birdwatcher, gardener, florist and fantastic cook, as well as a wonderful mother, grandmother and all-around perfect. She was a member of the St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church in Georgetown, Del.
Ryan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Patrick Francis Ryan; a son, Richard Ryan; a brother, David Ziegler; and a grandson, Chad Panuska. She is survived by two sons, Michael Joseph Ryan of San Jose, Calif., and David George Ryan and his wife, Lauren, of Ocala, Fla.; four daughters, Patricia Fay Plummer and her husband, Virgil, of Georgetown, Sharon M. McDonald and her husband, Robert C., of Bear, Del., Veronica Carey and her husband, James, of Fenwick Island, Del., and Teresa A. Michieli and her husband, Michael, of Milford, Del.; a brother, Ferdinand Ziegler and his wife, Helen, of Delmar, Del.; a sister, Anna Marie Brummett of Florida; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was scheduled for Friday, Oct. 10, 2008. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to your local S.P.C.A.
