Robert H. “Bob” Bowers, 80, of Frankford, Del., formerly of Silver Spring, Md., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, Del. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army, and worked for the Washington Post as an assembler before his retirement in 1993. He was a member of St. George’s United Methodist Church in Clarksville, Del., the American Legion Post 28 near Oak Orchard, Del., Mason Dixon Post 7234 at Quillen’s Point in Ocean View, Del. and the Elks Lodge #2540 in Lewes, Del. He loved music and traveling and also enjoyed going to yard sales, bowling, and throwing darts. Bowers loved life and often volunteered at Meals on Wheels and ACTS in Clarksville.
Bowers is survived by his wife of seven years, Margaret “Dolly” Bowers; a daughter, Pamela Lee Bowers, of Huntington, W. Va.; two sons, Mark Andrew Bowers and his wife, Pamela Jean, of Silver Spring, Md., and Glen Preston Bowers, also of Silver Spring; two grandchildren, Jennifer Lyn Walker and her husband, Steve, of Silver Spring, and Daniel James Bowers of Rockville, Md.; and a great-grandson, Silas Walker.
A funeral service was scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, with interment in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
