Cecil R. Godfrey Jr., 77, of Rehoboth Beach, Del., passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, Del. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Marine Corps. He was part of the first graduating class of Mt. Pleasant High School in Wilmington, Del., and a graduate of the University of Delaware with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. He was employed as the international liaison for All American Engineering in Wilmington before becoming a mortgage banker and then vice president for First Pennsylvania Bank, retiring in 1982. He was also a pro-baseball player for a short period for the Philadelphia Phillies. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was an avid sports fan and gardener, who loved to spend time working on his home.
Godfrey was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Mable Pyle Godfrey; his aunts, Margaret, Flossy and Francie; his uncle, Charles; a sister, Shirley; and a niece, Lisa. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Elfriede C. “Fritzi” Godfrey; two daughters, Tanya Godrey of Rehoboth Beach and Jennifer Baptiste and her husband, Jason, of Elkton, Md.; a brother, Walter; four sisters, Marion, Dolores, Juanita and Florence; a grandson, Jason Baptiste; and his loving four-legged companion, Maxine.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Assoc., 777 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
