Earle B. “Butch” Atkins Jr., 68, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Bear, Del., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, Del., after a courageous battle with cancer. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years before retiring and moving to Millsboro in 1996. He enjoyed bowling, boating, fishing and golf; as well as being a “snowbird” and spending his winters in Florida. He was a member and Past Commodore of the Indian River Yacht Club, a member of the Elk’s Lodge, BPOE, and member of the 11th Ward Democratic Bowling League. He was the most friendly, easiest-going, fun-loving person in the world.
Atkins was preceded in death by his parents, Earle and Francis Wilson Atkins Sr. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Nancy L. Atkins; a son, Earle Bennett Atkins III and his wife, Karen; a daughter, Leslie Atkins; two step-daughters, Kathy Griffith and her husband, Dan, and Tonya Gravatt and her husband, Jerry; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
