Raymond Joseph “Rick” Rickards Jr., 71, of Ocean View, Del., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, in the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, Del. He retired in 1991 as a supervisor after working 34 years at the DuPont plant, Seaford, Del.
He was respected for his easy-going way and service to others, as evidenced by his 52 years of service to the Millville Fire Co. He was one of the original members of the Delaware Mobile Surf Fisherman’s Club, a life member of the North American Hunting Club and a member of the N.C. Beach Buggy Association. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and time spent with his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the joy they brought to his life in his retirement years.
Rickards is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty Jean; his daughter, Pamela R. Browne and her husband, Mark; two grandchildren, Van Browne and his wife, Lisa, and Shawn Mize and her husband, Jeff; four great-grandchildren, Adison, Abott and Ashton Browne, and Sydney Jane Mize; his brother, Roy Rickards; and will be missed by many other family members and friends.
A funeral service was scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, with interment in the Ocean View Presbyterian Cemetery, Ocean View. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Millville Fire Co. Building Fund, PO Box 64, Millville, DE 19970; or to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
