Selbyville Middle School were impacted on Monday, April 6, after lightning struck a transformer near the school in a severe thunderstorm felt across the area and knocked out power to the building.
The school was kept closed on Tuesday due a problem with the building’s electrical system, according to Indian River School District spokesman Dave Maull.
“When power was restored, there was a problem resetting one of the school’s breakers, and a few sections of the school were still without electricity,” he explained on Tuesday. “Technicians have been on site today, and I was just informed that the problem has been fixed. The school will be open tomorrow.”
The bulk of the storm’s impact was felt in brief power outages throughout the area, as well as moderate flooding in low-lying streets due to heavy rain from the storm.
