UPDATED: The Department of Transportation advised motorists on Tuesday, April 14, that sheetpile driving would be occurring on the new Indian River Inlet Bridge this week and would require the closure of the right lane of Route 1 southbound through the work zone. The lane closure was to be in effect Tuesday, April 14, through Friday, April 24. It was originally scheduled to run through April 17 but was extended one week due to persistent rainy weather this week.
DelDOT cautioned motorists who travel in and around the existing Indian River Inlet Bridge to lower their speed to 35 mph through the work zone. As activity around the bridge increases, they said, motorists should stay focused on the road and not become distracted by the construction activity.
