Edward H. Long, 86, of Roxana, Del., passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009, at home. He had been a grain and poultry farmer for many years and was a member of Sound U.M. Church in Williamsville, Del. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II and was a life member of the Mason-Dixon VFW Post 7234, Ocean View, Del. He was also a former member of the Delaware Grange and Delmarva Poultry Industry.
Long was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Helen Rayne Long; and a son, Maj. William E. Long. He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Long; a son, Lawrence R. Long and his wife, Deborah, of Roxana; a sister, Marilyn Elton of Warrington, Pa.; two grandsons, Zachary and Luke Long; and a daughter-in-law, M. Melinda Long, of Manteo, N.C.
The family thanked Bertie, Ellen, Geraldine and Nadine for the care they gave to him.
A graveside service was scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Roxana Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
