Frederick Thomas “Tom” Shunick, 68, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Westminster, Md. and the Baltimore Inner Harbor area, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at Beebe Medical Center. He relocated to Delaware in 2005 after 25 years in nursing and administration with the Mercy Medical Center, Baltimore, Md. He also worked for 12 years in the AIDS unit at Johns Hopkins. Earlier in his career, he served as director of nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital, Galesburg, Ill. He had served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged with the rank of captain. He held a Ph.D. in business administration and he was a gourmet cook.
Shunick was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick C. and Elizabeth (Gambell) Shunick; his brother, Robert Shunick; and his sister, Kay Shunick. He is survived by his partner of 37 years, Calvin Hagan.
