BREAKING NEWS: Opponents of Lewes shopping center to protest in Georgetown tonight

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 5 to 5:45 p.m., on the sidewalk of The Circle at Georgetown, a group of Lewes residents plan to protest the re-zoning requested for a regional shopping center at the gateway to Lewes. The public hearing on the request before the Sussex County Council will begin at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the Circle.

In the protest, citizens will carry some of the 600 yellow opposition signs cropping up around Lewes, as well as large 18-foot banners against the re-zoning.

"This is it! The Lewes community will be out in force against the Lingo re-zoning," said Nadine Wick, of Lewes, a spokesperson for Managing Growth Around Lewes, the ctiizens group that has collected more than 2,300 signatures against the re-zoning.
