William E. “Bill” Savage, 84, of Clarksville, Del. passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Navy aboard the USS Cavalier which was torpedoed during the battle of Philippine Islands. He was a member of the American Legion Post#24 of Dagsboro.
Savage loved his family and raised his children as a single father.
Savage is preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Maude (McCabe) Savage; four sisters, Teenie Maude, Mabel Lewis, Catherine Hudson and Madeline MaGee; five brothers, Ollie “Bud” Savage, Charles Savage, Luther Savage, Richard Savage and Carlton “Sonny” Savage. He is survived by two sons, William E. Savage, Jr, and James E. Savage; two daughters, Patricia Temple and R. Lynn Lynch; three sisters, Lillian Tingle, June Hickman and Shirley West; two sister-in-laws, Jacquelyn and Jane Savage; three grandchildren, Graig Temple, Tricia Wingate and Taylor Lynch; four great grandchildren, Garrett Wingate, Isaac , Kameran and Devyn Elkins.
A funeral is set for Saturday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street in Frankford, where friends may call after 12 p.m. Burial will be in Bishopville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Beebe Medical Center, 400 Savannah Rd, Lewes, DE 19958.
