Gregory M. "Bo Sar" Sarley, 63, of Lewes, Del. passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 at home. He had retired from the Delaware State Police in 1992 at the rank of Master Corporal. He was a U.S. Army Veteran that served in Vietnam with distinction; he received two Purple Hearts, three Bronze Stars, one Air Medal, and was Honorably Discharged as a Sergeant from his service. He was a Life Member of the Hockessin Fire Company, member of the Delaware State Police Troopers Association, and member of the Association of Retired Troopers. Sarley lived for his grandchildren, loved football especially the N.Y. Giants and the South Carolina Gamecocks, and enjoyed spending time on the bench with his friends at Peddler's Village.
Sarley is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Beverly Maines Sarley. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Deborah A. Cline Sarley; a son, Gregory M. Sarley, Jr. and his partner Daniel Kesling of Medford, Ore.; two daughters, Ginine Sarley-Maxwell and husband William of Chadds Ford, Pa. and Stephanie Mastrangelo and husband Josh of Lewes, Del.; two brothers, Joel Sarley and wife Terry of Fairfax, Va. and Brian Mahler of Fairfax, Va.; three sisters, Deborah Thompson and husband Randall of Cross Junction, Va., Rebecca Brown and husband Martin of Potomac, Md., and Marcie Mahler of Fairfax, Va.; father in law, Edward Cline of Lewes, Del; aunt, Mary-Ann Mahler of Fairfax, Va.; and six grandchildren, Jordan, Harrison, Clayton, Grayson, Will, and Isabel.
A Mass of Christian Burial is set for, Thursday, Jan. 21at 11 a.m. at the Saint Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, 301 N. Bancroft Parkway, Wilmington, Delaware. A Visitation is set for Wednesday, Jan. 20 from 6-8 p.m. at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S Washington Street, Millsboro, Del. Interment with Honors will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, Del. following Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that in memory contributions be made to the Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS), PO BOX 430, Dover, DE 19903.
