George Braun, 83


George Braun, 83, of Ocean View, Del. passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. He grew up in East Orange, Ne.J., the second of three brothers. After serving in World War II, he returned and attended Lafayette College, where he got his degree in geology but more important met Berenice, the girl who would become his wife of nearly 60 years. He devoted his entire working life to the service of his country, first in the U.S. Army in Europe in World War II, and later analyzing photographic intelligence for the defense department. After retiring, he moved to Ocean View and redirected his energy and passion to fishing, tennis and golf. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a faithful parishioner of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach.
Braun is survived by his wife, Berenice; two sons, Kevin of Livermore, Calif., Rick and Jim of Northern Va.; a brother, John of Cincinnati, OH; three grandchildren, John, Jackie and Rachel.
A funeral Mass followed by a celebration of Braun's life is set for Friday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach. In honor of Braun’s life, contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
