Three charged in residential burglaries


According to the Fenwick Island Police Department, three subjects have been charged in a string of residential burglaries that occurred along the beachfront in late October of 2009.

Joseph Sam Schaffer, 21, of Mardela Springs, Md., was charged with four counts of burglary, one count of attempted burglary, five counts of conspiracy, three counts of theft and five counts of criminal mischief. Schaffer is being held by the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office on unrelated charges and awaiting extradition to Delaware.

David W. Gordy, 21, of Mardela Springs, Md., was charges with four counts of burglary, one count of attempted burglary, five counts of conspiracy, three counts of theft and five counts of criminal mischief. Gordy is being held at Sussex County Correctional Institute, failing to post bail.
Katheryne Hart, 27, of Fruitland, Md., was charged with one count of receiving stolen property and one count of conspiracy. Hart was released on unsecured bail.

The investigation, lead by Sgt. John Devlin of the Fenwick Island Police Department, was in cooperation with the Ocean City Police Department, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, and the Fruitland, Md. Police Department. Police said the investigation allowed the police to recover over 75 percent of the stolen property.
