The Town of Fenwick Island will host its annual beach bonfire on Saturday, July 3, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the Dagsboro Street beach. The annual event raises money for the Fenwick Island Beach Patrol, to help offset costs of attending the national lifeguard competition, which will be held this year in California.
The event will feature a D.J. with a laser light show, and a silent auction. There will be snow cones available for sale and a 50/50 raffle. Becca McWilliams of the Fenwick Island Beach Committee explained that there is no charge to attend the event, but donations are accepted and T-shirts and towels will also be for sale.
“It’s great to just bring a picnic or a beach chair and just sit,” she said. In past years, McWilliams said they have seen between 600 and 800 people, so the celebrating can go as far as Bayard and Georgetown streets, but the central hub will be at Dagsboro Street.
“It’s really fun. The lifeguards do games, and every year it gets bigger and bigger,” she said. The rain date for the event is Sunday, July 4.
