Richard A. "Dick" Kelly, formerly of Mavern, Pa., passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the Delaware Hospice Center, surrounded by his loved ones. As a young man he served in in the U.S. Navy during World War II, aboard the USS Valley Forge and USS Tarawa. He was a diesel mechanic receiving his certificate from Ford Motor Company in 1960, held an executive position for the Teamster's Local 312 in Chester, Pa. until his retirement in 1986. After his retirement he was employed by Oyster Bay Bait and Tackle to support his fishing passion which he shared with his children, grandchildren and his wife.
He was well known as the "Old man of the Sea"
Kelly was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ashly E. Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Elizabeth "Libby"; five children, Patricia Kelly of Malvern, Pa., Edward Kelly (Karen) of Essington, Pa., Richard Kelly, Jr. of Malvern, Pa., Michael Kelly of Malvern, Pa. and Naomi Hersh (Bryon) of Spring City, Pa.; his grandchildren, Dylan Kelly of Malvern, Pa., Michael Kelly of Glenmoore, Pa., Sterling Kelly of Malvern, Pa., Stephen Brown of Malvern, Pa. and Megan Kelly of Glenmoore, Pa.
Services are set for Monday, July 19, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Chapel of the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery Millsboro, Del. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to, Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
