Raymond L. Marvel, 89, of Dagsboro, Del., passed away Friday, July 16, 2010, at home surrounded by his loving family. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Selbyville Elks Lodge. Before his retirement, he had owned and operated Ray’s Selbyville Arco Service Station for 32 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family.
Marvel was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Kendall and Laura (Littleton) Marvel. He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Marvel; one son, Ray Marvel of Timonium, Md.; four daughters, Anise Price of Selbyville, Del.; Terri Hastings of Georgetown, Del.; Dawn Marvel-Beck of Frankford, Del. and Mary Beth Parker of Millsboro, Del.; two brothers, Elwood Marvel of Ocean View, Del., and Ernest Marvel of Frankford, Del.; three sisters, Hilda Parker of Georgetown, Del., Elva Brittingham of Oak Orchard, Del. and Marguerite Stevens of Dagsboro, Del.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services are set for Thursday, July 22, at 12 p.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville, Del. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and also an hour before the service on Thursday. Burial will be at Roxana Cemetery in Roxana.
