William W. Collins Jr., 84, of Selbyville, Del., died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, Md.
After serving in Italy during World War II, Collins graduated from Goldy-Beacom College in Wilmington, Del. He worked for Murray’s Feed Service in Frankford, Del., for many years, eventually becoming the general manager for the former Paramount Poultry (Cargill) in Harbeson, Del. For most of his life, he was an active member of Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir; was involved with the Lion’s Club; and enjoyed singing, fishing and playing cards. Watching the New York Yankees was his favorite pastime.
Collins was preceded in death by his parents, William G. Collins Sr.; and Anne Phillips Collins; his wife, Mary Hocker Collins; and a brother, Harold G. Collins. He is survived by two sons, Grady M. Collins of Boothwyn, Pa., and Brett B. Collins of Salisbury, Md.; four grandchildren, Kara, William, Georgette and Alexandra; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Collins; two sisters, Shirley Stephens and Virginia Hitches; and numerous other relatives.
A funeral service was scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010. Burial was to be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mariner’s Bethel U.M. Church, 81 Central Ave., Ocean View, DE 19970.
