Josephine “Jo” A. Graves, 80, of Bethany Beach, Del., formerly of Rockville, Md., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at her home.
Graves retired in 1998 from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association after 19 years of service. Her life was always focused around her church, family and friends. She was involved with many church activities, both at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Rockville and at St. Ann’s in Bethany Beach. Graves will always be remembered for being savvy, having a great sense of humor, being quick witted and having an outgoing and inviting personality. She was best known for making people smile.
In addition to her parents, Michael and Mary (Hanley) Madden, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Erica Lynn Graves, and two sisters, Mary Kearney and Margaret Madden. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, William Joseph Graves Sr.; six children, William Joseph Graves Jr., Paul Gregory Graves, Alan Thomas Graves, Patricia Graves Kincaid, Kevin Michael Graves and Deborah Graves Tysinger; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Thomas and John Madden.
A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, with interment to be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro, Del.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Graves’ name to St. Ann’s Catholic Church or the Tunnell Cancer Center, 18941 John J. Williams Hwy., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
