David M. Robinson Jr., 81, of Cudjoe Key, Fla., and formerly of Wilmington, Del., died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del.
After leaving high school in 1946 to serve in the U.S. Navy, Robinson attended the University of Delaware, becoming the first student to receive a Ph.D. in electrical engineering. He retired from the University of Delaware as professor emeritus in 1996. After his retirement, Robinson divided his time between Bethany Beach and Cudjoe Key, Fla. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time on his boat. He was extremely proud of becoming a certified scuba diver at the age of 65. Most recently, Robinson enjoyed spending time with his partner, Sharon Clarke, and his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, David M. Robinson Sr. and Lillian (Worral) Robinson, he was preceded in death by his wife Doris (Carter) Robinson and brother, Donald B. Robinson. He is survived by his son, Mark D. Robinson of Bethany Beach, Del.; his partner, Sharon Clarke of Sayre, Pa.; two grandchildren, Alyssa and Jake Robinson; Clarke’s daughter, Jennifer Wakely and her children, Destiny, Jack and Olivia; and Clarke’s son, Andrew Clarke.
A graveside service was scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle. A memorial service was scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 18, at Hastings Funeral Home, 19 South Main St., Selbyville, Del.
