Phillip H. Melson, 77, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Lewes, Del., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Del.
Melson was employed by the University of Delaware to captain their first marine research vessel, the “Acacia”; later, he was employed as a civil engineer by the Delaware and Florida highway departments. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.
Melson is survived by his wife, Betty E. Melson; son, Christian Melson; four stepsons; two daughters, Victoria Wright and Margaret Melson; a sister, Beth King; brothers, Clayton H. Melson Jr., H. Page Melson, Scott S. Melson, A. Douglas Melson and Alfred B. Melson; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
