Linda P. “Dee” Doughten, 64, of Selbyville, Del., formerly of Wilmington, Del., passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side, after courageously fighting cancer for six and a half years.
Doughten worked as a school bus driver for 17 years in New Castle County, Del., and more recently as a bartender and hostess in Ocean City, Md. She enjoyed a variety of activities, including coaching softball at Canal Little League, shopping, reading and her beloved slots. She was also a proud member of the Cha-Cha Girls, her friends since high school.
Doughten was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Irene (Duarte) Haney, and daughter, Beverly Doughten Alberts. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Merle O. Doughten Sr.; son, Merle O. Doughten Jr.; daughter, Andi Doughten; three grandchildren, Amanda, Anthony and Brian; five siblings, Kathy Boyce, Terri Talley, Joanne McDonald, Tom Long and Joseph Haney; her aunt and uncle, Louise and Al D’Onofrio; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010. Her family said they were extremely grateful to the people at the Tunnel Cancer Center and Delaware Hospice. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, they would prefer that donations be sent in Doughten’s name to the Tunnell Cancer Center; 18947 John J. Williams Highway; Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
