John D. Heatwole, 78, of Ocean View, Del., formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del., surrounded by his loving family.
Heatwole was a Korean War veteran, having served in the United States Navy. After his discharge from the Navy, he then was employed as a meat cutter for various companies in the Baltimore area before his retirement.
Heatwole was preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Maizie (Painter) Heatwole. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patsy J. (Kilburn) Heatwole; children, Constance R. Ohora of Olney, Md., John D. Heatwole Jr. of Jarrettsville, Md., Dana S. Heatwole of Parkton, Md., Michael B. Heatwole of Falls Church, Va., and Dale G. Heatwole of Brooklyn, NY; a sister, Gaynelle Guercio of Felton, Del.; stepbrothers Joel Finchum of Dagsboro, Del., Harry Finchum of Cartersville, Ga., and Richard Finchum of Brooklyn, NY; and nine grandchildren.
A visitation was scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010; interment with military honors was to be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Heatwole’s name to the charity of the giver’s choice.
