WEATHER ALERT: Wind Advisory and Flood Warning in effect until midnight


THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING AND WIND ADVISORY FOE THE AREA UNTIL AROUND MIDNIGHT. A TORNADO WATCH WAS IN EFFECT FOR AREAS NORTH AND WEST DUE TO THE SAME STORM SYSTEM.

RAIN AND EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING FROM THE MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE AND EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA INTO DELAWARE AND SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY LATE THIS AFTERNOON. THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE GENERATING VERY HEAVY DOWNPOURS THAT WERE DROPPING OVER AN INCH OF RAIN IN AN HOUR. SOME RESULTING POOR-DRAINAGE FLOODING MAY OCCUR. THE
THUNDERSTORMS ALSO WERE GENERATING DANGEROUS CLOUD-TO-GROUND LIGHTNING. WIND GUSTS UP TO 45 MPH WERE OCCURRING BOTH IN AND OUTSIDE OF THUNDERSTORMS.

A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EDT TONIGHT. MODERATE TIDAL FLOODING IS POSSIBLE DURING THE HIGH TIDE THIS EVENING.
* AT REHOBOTH BEACH... DELAWARE (OCEANFRONT)... HIGH TIDE OCCURS AT 710 PM... WITH A FORECAST TIDE LEVEL NEAR 7.0 FEET ABOVE MEAN LOWER LOW WATER.
* HIGH TIDE OCCURS ON BACK BAYS AND TIDAL TRIBUTARIES LATER THAN IT DOES ALONG THE OCEANFRONT. WAVE HEIGHTS IN THE SURF ZONE ALONG THE OCEANFRONT MAY BE IN THE 5 TO 8 FOOT RANGE. NUMEROUS ROADWAYS MAY FLOOD. SOME DAMAGE TO PROPERTY AND MODERATE BEACH EROSION ARE POSSIBLE.

A WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT. WINDS ARE PREDICTED TO BE SOUTHEAST TO SOUTH AT 15 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 45 MPH. OBJECTS SUCH AS LAWN FURNITURE AND GARBAGE CANS MAY BE BLOWN ABOUT BY THE WIND. SOME TREE LIMBS AND UTILITY WIRES MAY COME DOWN. ALSO, TREES WITH SHALLOW ROOTS MAY BE TOPPLED DUE TO THE COMBINED EFFECTS OF THE STRONG WIND AND THE SATURATED SOIL.
