UPDATE: Police are now reporting that a Frankford woman was killed in the three-vehicle crash that occurred this morning on Roxana Road.
According to the Delaware State Police, the crash occurred about 8:45 a.m. Saturday morning as Monika Webster, 52, of Frankford was operating a 2005 Ford Explorer and was traveling southbound on Roxana Road. The front of Webster’s vehicle, police said, then struck the left front of a 1988 Chevrolet Corsica, which was being operated by Franklin Bunting, 78, also of Frankford, and which was attempting to turn into the northbound lane of Roxana Road after being parked on the southbound shoulder. After the impact, both the Chevrolet and the Ford struck a 2006 Dodge Ram that was legally parked unoccupied on the southbound shoulder of Roxana Road, police reported.
Hilda B. Bunting, 79, of Frankford, who was a passenger in the Chevrolet Corsica, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was turned over to the medical examiners office, where an autopsy was to be performed to determine the exact cause of death. Franklin Bunting was flown by the Delaware State Police helicopter to Christiana Hospital in Newark, DEl., where he was being treated for serious injuries as of 3:30 p.m. Monika Webster was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Beebe Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries, which were not considered life threatening.
Seatbelts were worn by all of the parties involved in the crash, police said. The roadways in the area of the crash scene were closed for approximately for hours as the crash was investigated and cleared. The accident remained under investigation.
As of 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, Delaware State Police were on the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred this morning about 8:45 a.m. between Clarksvillle, Millville and Ocean View.
The initial information is that the accident occurred at Roxana Road (Roue 17) and Atlantic Avenue (Route 26) and that one person had been pronounced dead and a second person removed from the scene in serious condition. Roxana Road, Atlantic Avenue and Burbage Road were all closed at 9:30 a.m. as a result of the crash. Commuters were asked to find alternate means of travel around the scene.
This crash was in its initial stages of investigation. More details will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
