Long & Foster’s Bethany office now a Toys for Tots collection site

Long & Foster has announced that its Bethany Beach office launched its annual toy drive on Nov. 15 to benefit the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves’ Toys for Tots Campaign. Toys may be dropped off seven days a week between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Long & Foster’s Bethany Beach office, located at 33298 Coastal Highway. All donations must be made prior to Dec. 19.

Long & Foster offices throughout the Mid-Atlantic region are participating in the Toys for Tots donation drive. This year marks the company’s 22nd year participating in the holiday collection campaign.

“We at Long & Foster are part of the community in which we operate and we’re honored to have this opportunity to not only contribute to the Toys for Tots initiative, but to give our fellow community members a convenient location to make their donations,” Dottie Wells, manager of the Bethany office, said. “We will collect the new, unwrapped toy donations throughout the holiday season and ensure that less fortunate children in our area are the recipients of some holiday cheer,”.

Between now and Dec. 19, each of the company’s more than 170 sales offices throughout seven states and the District of Columbia will accept donations for disadvantaged children. Long & Foster employees at the company’s corporate headquarters in Chantilly, Va., will also participate in the annual holiday campaign.

“A top priority for Long & Foster sales agents and staff is to give back to the various communities we serve,” said Jeffrey S. Detwiler, president and chief operating officer of the Long & Foster Companies. “This is why our offices participate annually in the Toys for Tots drive, as they have for more than 20 years. Our agents and their clients have generously supported this cause and made it possible for us to continue our annual collection and share the holiday spirit with children who might not receive anything otherwise,” he added.

Once the toys are collected and presented to the U.S. Marines, they are distributed through churches and social welfare agencies to the neediest children throughout the community. The Toys for Tots Campaign, started by the Marines in 1947, is an annual toy collecting drive that now reaches across 520 communities throughout 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

The U.S. Marine Corps reported that its 2011 Toys for Tots campaign realized its greatest revenue ever, at $252 million, and distributed nearly 16 million toys to more than 7 million children, despite a sluggish economy and a reduction in manpower capability of the Reserves.

Last year, Long & Foster contributed to this by collecting thousands of new toys throughout the company’s Mid-Atlantic footprint. For information on this year’s Toys for Tots Campaign, call the Bethany office at (302) 539-9040 or visit www.toysfortots.org.
