Memory Café to include paws and people

The next Memory Café for people with memory loss and their caregivers will be held on Monday, Aug. 26, from 10:30 a.m. until noon, at the Ocean View Cheer Coastal Leisure Center at 30637 Cedar Neck Road in Ocean View. The free community program is organized by Cheer Delaware Hospice and the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

“Pets” will be the theme of August’s Memory Café, and participants may bring along friendly, sociable pets from home, but they should call for information first. Attendees will also be able to enjoy live music, refreshments and a presentation by Paws for People. Educational materials and experts in the field will be available.

“Living with memory loss can be challenging, especially for caregivers,” organizers said. “In addition to the many physical and emotional challenges, the caregiver is often unable or unwilling to leave his or her loved one, resulting in social isolation. Memory Cafés provide a safe environment for people with memory loss and their care partners to laugh, learn and be socially engaged with others who are traveling the same journey.”

Memory Café is open to the public and free of charge, although a snack donation will be accepted. The program is not an adult day program, nor one that provides personal or medical care. The caregiver/family member is responsible for their loved one.

Registration is requested for planning purposes but not required. Register or learn more by contacting Yolanda Gallego at or (302) 539-2671.
