Annual Fenwick Island Turkey Trot set for Thanksgiving day

The 6th Annual Fenwick Island Turkey Trot will be held on Thursday, Nov. 28, at 8 a.m. The 2.2-mile fun run/walk starts oceanside on Lewes Street in Fenwick Island, and then goes south to the Maryland state line and back. All are welcome, including leashed pets. Holiday or any festive costumes are encouraged.

There is no charge to participate, but participants are being encouraged to donate to the Delaware SPCA. The Delaware SPCA is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to the elimination of animal cruelty, neglect and overpopulation by providing services for people and their companion animals since 1873.

“The Delaware SPCA does not receive state or county funding, and there is no national SPCA, so the organization relies solely on donations to carry on their work for the animals.” said organizer Lori Martin, president of HipAHA. “I firmly believe that residents, visitors and local businesses will rally to support the Trot and the animals again this year.”

Cash contributions or other items from the SPCA’s wish list are welcome. The wish list may be viewed online at Post Trot, a complimentary hot chocolate and oatmeal reception, will be held at Pottery Place Perks Café in Sunshine Plaza and is sponsored by Pottery Place Perks Café.

Commemorative T-shirts are available and may be pre-ordered, with limited quantities to be sold at the Trot. They cost $20. A portion of T-shirt proceeds will be donated to the Delaware SPCA.

Sponsorships are currently available, at a variety of price ranges. Interested business should contact Lori Martin at (302) 539-1290.
