Selbyville Friends thankful for support

On behalf of the Friends of the Selbyville Public Library, we would like to thank those who attended and supported our first Author Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 24. The evening was a great success thanks to our speaker, Richard Carter from the Delaware Heritage Commission, and a fabulous dinner catered by Sedona restaurant.

Mr. Carter discussed the life of Selbyville civic leader, Delaware governor and U.S. Sen. John G. Townsend, from his book “Clearing New Ground, the Life of John G. Townsend.” Sen. Townsend’s home was given to the library for its use nearly 50 years ago and is the town’s most recognizable landmark.

Special thanks go to our sponsors: lead sponsor the Selbyville Elks, the Town of Selbyville, Strawberry Liquors, Dr. James K. Kramer and PNC Bank. Thanks also go to Mountaire Farms for their support.

Proceeds from the event will help support the programs and improvements at the Selbyville Public Library. The Friends of the Selbyville Public Library have provided financial and volunteer support to our local library for nearly 30 years. First Responders event a hit, thanks to many

The 2nd Annual Bethany Beach First Responders Triathlon-Duathlon-Aquabike, presented by Meris Properties, held on Sept. 22, was a home run. Judging from the turnout, positive comments and energetic atmosphere, the weekend-long series of events was a success.

It is our pleasure to support worthy charities such as our EMS services first responders of the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company, Share-a-Lot and Autism Speaks. It is our pleasure to bring to thousands of visitors to the area. It is our privilege to connect businesses with non-profits.

We are proud to report the weekend represented true partnership of private, philanthropic, and civic entities. We donated $20,000 to the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company, more than doubling our donation from 2012. Further, we helped to raise more $11,000 for Autism Speaks.

All weekend long, athletes and their fans, and dozens of volunteers enjoyed our Quiet Resorts and all we have to offer: they shopped in our stores, they ate in our restaurants and, yes, even partied in our bars. On Sunday morning, the rain stopped and 850 athletes and more than 1,000 spectators and dozens of volunteers celebrated athletic competition in Bethany Beach.

Most sincere thanks to the presenting sponsor, Meris Properties, our official bank sponsor, PNC Bank-Bethany Beach, and other sponsors to date: 3rd Wave Brewing Company, Baja Beach House Grill, Beach Liquors, Bethany Beach Books, Bethany Blues, the Cottage Café, Bethany Dental Associates, Peninsula Oil & Propane, Bethany Fenwick-Area Chamber of Commerce, Coastal Point, Creative Resource Group Inc., Cycling Center of Coastal Delaware, D3 Corp, Delaware National Guard, Delaware Wave, Delmarva Two Way Radio, Deployable Systems, The Dispatch, Giant Foods, Harris Teeter, Hyatt Place Dewey Beach, Kiki at the Beach, Mango’s, Marnie Custom Homes, Mid-South Sound, Ocean RV Center, Rehoboth Beach Sports, ResortQuest Real Estate, The Starboard, Tri Tat’s Temporary Tattoo Body Marking, Sea Colony, Southern Delaware Tourism, Armand’s Pizza, DJ Padraig and Hook ’Em and Cook ’Em.

Special thanks to our lead volunteers: Jacqui Felici, Mary Franz and Ann Kangas. They contributed hundreds of hours organizing, preparing and recruiting.

We are also grateful for the tireless efforts from the Town of Bethany Beach, Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company, Bethany Beach Police Department, Bethany Beach Public Works Department, Bethany Beach Patrol, Sea Colony Beach Patrol, South Bethany Police Department, Sussex County EMS, ARES Mobile Operators, Delaware Department of Transportation, Delaware State Police, and our production company, Piranha Sports. We thank them all for the cooperation, support and time.

We were awed by the enthusiastic response from residents, visitors, local and regional businesses, the town of Bethany Beach and surrounding areas and plan to continue the tradition next year. We are scheduled for next fall already: Sept. 21, 2014, and nearly 200 athletes have registered so far. Register now: bethanybeachtri.com.Thanks again for your support, Bethany Beach, Fenwick and Dewey Beach folks!
