Ocean View to hold election to fill Sheeran’s seat

Ocean View officials are searching for candidates to run for a town council seat in a special election, scheduled to be held on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016.

The position up for grabs will be to fill the chair previously held by Tom Sheeran, who passed away on Nov. 22. Sheeran was a longtime voice in Ocean View even before winning his spot on Council, and the Town will miss him dearly. As will many of its residents, whether or not they followed the happenings at Town Hall.

He was a man of principles and convictions, and even if you did not agree with him on all subjects, you had to appreciate having him involved in the debate. He made certain all sides to every point were heard.

We were all saddened to hear of Sheeran’s passing, and offer our most sincere condolences to his family and friends. He was a good man who provided true service to Ocean View, and he will be missed.

And, obviously, he will be missed as a council member in pragmatic terms, as well. Ocean View’s council seats are divvied up by districts, so now the Town’s District 3 region is not represented on council. That district includes Bridal Ridge, Hunter’s Run, Ocean Mist, Savannah’s Landing, Rosegate II, East, Ocean View Beach Club, Ocean Way Estates, Meyle Estates, Silverwoods, Southview and Westview.

If you live in that district, and care to run in the special election, you must file a certicication of intent and pay a $50 filing fee at the Town’s administrative offices on Central Avenue, no later than 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 8.

Sheeran leaves a void behind, but his efforts will continue forth.
