Peralta named SAL Pitcher of the Week
Just a week after RHP Cristian Alvarado collected the honor, the Delmarva Shorebirds saw RHP Ofelky Peralta named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the week.
Peralta earned the award for the week of July 4 through July 10, tossing a no-hitter in a 5-0 win over Hagerstown on Friday, July 8. The 19-year-old Dominican Republic native’s second straight no-hitter was cut short due to rain; however, he still managed eight strikeouts in the win.
Through 16 starts this season, Peralta had put together a 5-4 record and 3.64 ERA, while racking up 75 strikeouts in 75.2 innings.
He joins not only Alvarado but shortstop Ryan Mountcastle and catcher Yermin Mercedes as Shorebirds to bring home Player of the Week honors this season.
Headed into the spring, Peralta was ranked 17th on the Baltimore Orioles’ Top Prospect list.
