Former Shorebirds’ pitcher called up to the majors

It was only one year ago that Donnie Hart took the mound at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury.

The LHP and 2013 Baltimore Orioles draft pick (Round 27) out of Texas State had gotten his start in Aberdeen before spending the entire 2014 season and beginning of the 2015 season with the Shorebirds.

After a few more calls up and starting 2016 with the AA Bowie Baysox, however, Hart got the call to the majors last Friday.

The 25-year-old southpaw will join the O’s bullpen as a situational reliever, set to help fill the void left by injured LHP T.J. McFarland and LFP Brian Matusz, who was traded to the Atlanta Braves this past May.

During his time in Delmarva, Hart appeared in 43 games and went 2-3 as a starter. As a closer, he recorded 14 total saves.

For the Orioles, Hart will wear number 58.
