Eagle’s Landing to host Glo-Golf Tournament

Eagle’s Landing Golf Course in Berlin, Md., will host its Glo-Golf Tournament on Friday, Sept. 16.

The two-player scramble event will feature a 6:45 p.m. shotgun start, and nine holes after a 5:45 p.m. Twilight Party, with prizes available after the tournament.

The event costs $50 to enter.

Alumni games announced for Indian River football

At three separate home games this season, the Indian River High School Football Boosters will be honoring IR football alumni during halftime ceremonies.

The schedule is as follows:

• Friday, Sept. 9, (7 p.m.) vs. Linganore HS — players from the 1960s and 1970s;

• Friday, Sept. 23, (7 p.m.) vs. Cape Henlopen HS — all Blue-Gold participants from over the past 50 years, including players, cheerleaders, band members, ambassadors and Hand-in-Hand Buddies; and

• Friday, Oct. 7, (7 p.m.) vs. Laurel HS — players from the 1980s.

Beam makes Richmond debut in NC State exhibition

Wearing blue and white instead of green and gold, and No. 25 instead of No. 1, Indian River High School grad and Gatorade Player of the Year recipient Brooke Beam made her NCAA debut with the Richmond Spiders in an exhibition match against N.C. State on Friday, Aug. 12.

The Spiders tied the Wolfpack 1-1 in that matchup, with Caesar Rodney HS grad and current Richmond junior Lexi Prillaman netting the equalizer.

Beam and the Spiders will get the regular season under way this Friday, Aug. 19, when they travel to Longwood (Va.) in a non-conference matchup starting at 7 p.m.

Dewey Beach Sprint Triathlon set for Sept. 17

The 20th Annual Dewey Beach Sprint Triathlon will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Delaware Seashore State Park on Tower Road near Dewey Beach.

The event will include a half-mile ocean swim, 16-mile bike ride and 3.5-mile run.

Proceeds from the race will again go to benefitting the Sussex Family YMCA.

“This is an exciting event, and we are very happy to support a great cause and the Sussex Family YMCA again this year,” said Race Director Ava Cannon. “On race day, we’re hoping for a great turnout and comfortable weather conditions for all of our athletes and the volunteers.”
