Robert J. “Bob” Strawser, 69, of Selbyville, Del., died Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. He was born in Hummelstown, Pa., son of the late Robert F. Strawser and Mildred (St.) Solada.
He retired from Bethlehem Steel, where he was a motor inspector for 33 years. Prior to retiring to the beach, Strawser and his wife, JoAnn, created many wonderful memories square-dancing, holding hands while walking through the streets of Hummelstown and attending their children’s and grandchildren’s many activities. After moving to Delaware in 2004, Strawser was an active member of St. Matthews by-the-Sea United Methodist Church and was involved with the United Methodist Men. He was also a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and Delaware Hospice. Staweser was a Godly man who was deeply devoted to his family.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 49 years, JoAnn Potteiger Strawser of Selbyville; a son, Robert D. Strawser and wife, Linda, of Grantville, Pa.; a daughter, Dr. Bobbi J. Barends and husband, Andrew, of Selbyville; five grandchildren, Jacob, Elijah, Kennedy, Lindsay and Corie; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mildred R. Strawser, and a stepfather, Elwood J. Solada.
A celebration of life was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at St. Matthew’s by-the-Sea United Methodist Church, Fenwick Island, Del.
