IR girls’ hoops off to 2-1 start
The Indian River High School girls’ basketball team is off to a 2-1 start this season, most recently taking down Seaford on the road, 47-40, to start 1-0 in the Henlopen South.
The Indians also earned a 50-41 win over Delmarva Christian on Friday, Dec. 2, before taking their first loss against Worcester Prep 34-25 on Saturday, Dec. 3.
Junior guard Fabrea McCray led the Indians in scoring against the Royals, racking up 19 points in the matchup. Sophomore guard Danasia Wise finished with 10 points, and sophomore center Julia Jordan posted six.
McCray racked up double-digit points again against Worcester Prep in the following game, finishing the night with 16.
Up next, the Indians and second-year head coach Donna Polk will look to make it 2-0 in the division when they host Delmar on Friday, Dec. 9, at 5 p.m.
Mio Fratello to host dine-and-donate for IR girls’ basketball
The Indian River High School girls’ basketball team will hold a dine-and-donate at Mio Fratello on Monday, Dec. 12, at 4 p.m. Proceeds from sales will go toward the team.

Surfin’ Snowman 5-Miler registration open online
The Surfin’ Snowman 5-Miler and Santa’s Helper 2-Miler Family Run/Walk Challenge is back in Bethany Beach this holiday season, with early registration already open online and offered at a discounted rate through Dec. 29.
Bethany’s first and only “twilight run/walk” is set to get under way on Friday, Dec. 30, at 4 p.m. at Garfield Parkway and Atlantic Avenue.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Justin’s Beach House, the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company and Contractors for a Cause.
A post-race party will follow at 99 Sea Level, with age-group awards, live music from D.J. Padraig, hot chocolate and more.
