Sussex Central wrestling starts 2-0 with wins over Tech, Middletown
The Sussex Central High School wrestling team is off to a 2-0 start with dual-meet wins over Sussex Tech on Wednesday, Dec. 14, and Middletown on Friday, Dec. 16.
After a 72-3 win over the Ravens, Blake Chambers, Yunior Cruz, Lucas Hudson, John Morris, Mario Santizo all got falls, to give the Golden Knights the 49-16 win.
Up next, the Knights will head to Indian River High School for the Battle of the Beach tournament on Thursday, Dec. 29, and Friday, Dec. 30.

Sussex Central girls’ hoops off to 5-1 start
Coming off a Henlopen Conference championship and DIAA state tournament appearance in 2015-2016, the Sussex Central High School girls’ basketball team is off to another hot start in 2016-2017, winning their first five matchups before taking their first loss of the season against St. Elizabeth High School on Saturday, Dec. 17.
The Golden Knights started off with three straight Henlopen North wins, against Smyrna, Dover and Sussex Tech, before moving to 4-0 with a 64-0 shutout win over the Delaware Academy of Public Safety & Security on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
On Tuesday, Dec. 15, they moved to 4-0 in the division with a 55-33 win over Polytech.
Sophomores Raeonna and Ambria Stratton led the scoring in that game, with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Freshman Tameeyah Bowden wasn’t far off, with nine points on the night, with sophomore Azayah Garrison putting up seven, senior Tashara Houston finishing with four and junior Baleigh Lambert adding two.
Up next, the Knights will head to Lake Forest High School for the Pat Borowski Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 27, and Wednesday, Dec. 28.
Hair of the Dog/Exercise Like the Eskimos set for New Years’ Day
The sixth annual Hair of the Dog 5K/10K and 21st Annual Leo Brady Exercise Like the Eskimos Plunge will return to Bethany Beach this New Years’ Day, with online registration open through Dec. 27.
The event, which benefits the Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation (QRCF) will get under way on Sunday, Jan. 1, at 8:45 a.m. with events spread throughout the day in downtown Bethany Beach and capped with the plunge into the Atlantic in front of the Bethany Beach bandstand at noon.
Age-group awards will be given out for the 5K and 10K, with a post-race party held at Mango’s featuring live music from D.J. Padraig and complimentary beer provided by Shock Top and Michelob Ultra.
Day-of registration opens on Sunday, Jan. 1, at 7:30 a.m. at the Bethany Beach bandstand. To register online, or for more information, visit www.qrcf.org.
Surfin’ Snowman 5-Miler registration still open online
The Surfin’ Snowman 5-Miler and Santa’s Helper 2-Miler Family Run/Walk Challenge is back in Bethany Beach this holiday season, with early registration already open online and offered at a discounted rate through Dec. 29.
Bethany’s first and only “twilight run/walk” is set to get under way on Friday, Dec. 30, at 4 p.m. at Garfield Parkway and Atlantic Avenue.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Justin’s Beach House, the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company and Contractors for a Cause.
A post-race party will follow at 99 Sea Level, with age-group awards, live music from D.J. Padraig, hot chocolate and more.

OCRP to host winter soccer at Northside Park
School may be out, but soccer is in at the Ocean City Recreation & Parks Department, when their facility on 125th Street, at Northside Park, in Ocean City, Md., hosts “Winterfest Soccer Camp” from Monday, Dec. 26, through Wednesday, Dec. 28.
The camp costs $70 for residents and $81 for non-residents and is open to boys and girls ages 6-16.
