Charles J. Bartlett, 85, of Frankford Del., former mayor of Bethany Beach (1991 to 1997) died Friday, Dec. 16, 2016. He was born in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Charles M. Bartlett and Margaret (Farrell) Bartlett. He was a graduate of Gonzaga High School, Georgetown University and Georgetown University Law Center, all in Washington D.C. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired as the assistant general counsel for the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD). After retirement, he worked as counsel for the Brownstein, Zeidman & Schomer Law Firm in Washington, D.C.
Bartlett was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Bartlett; a daughter, Katherine Hilbert; and a great-granddaughter, Madison Hilbert. He is survived by two sons, Steven Bartlett and his wife, Carolyn, of Berlin, Md., and Charles F. Bartlett of Frankford Del.; two daughters, Patricia Johnson and her husband, Duane, of Felton Del., and Mary Bartlett and her husband, Charles Mosser, of Pasadena Md.; 10 grandchildren, Jamie, Kimberly, Steven, Caitlin, Bryan, Christopher, Thomas, Nicole, William and Jennifer; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A viewing was scheduled for Dec. 20, 2016, at Melson Funeral Services, Ocean View, Del. He was to be laid to rest next to his wife at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro, Del. Condolences may be sent online at www.melsonfuneralservices.com.
