Viola Mae Atkins, 93, of Millsboro, Del., passed away in the care of Harrison House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Georgetown, Del., on Jan. 2, 2017. She was born June 17, 1923, in Millville, Del., to the late Carl and Leona Morgan.
Atkins married Medford Atkins, and together they raised three children. She had a career at and retired from the Stockley Center. She was a devoted Christian and a member of the Sussex County Bible Church. She loved church activities most of all, and her other interests included knitting, crochet, puzzles and crossword books. She loved camping at Trap Pond State Park.
In addition to her parents, Atkins was preceded in death by her husband, Medford, in 2002, and an infant child, Gerald. She is survived by three children, Medford Atkins Jr. and his wife, Peggy, of New Castle, Del., Esther Rogers of Millsboro, and Bruce Atkins and his wife, Barbara, of Georgetown, Del.; two sisters, Helen Nichols of Salisbury, Md., and Kathrine Atkins of Millsboro; a brother, David Morgan and his wife, Louise, of Millsboro; her seven grandchildren, Kimberly Novello and her husband, Paul, Brian Atkins and his wife, Adria, Troy Atkins and his wife, Cindy, Christa Morris and her husband, Brian, Keith Rogers and his wife, Felicia, Connie West and her husband, Ron, and Cassie Atkins; 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Helen Morgan of Frankford, Del.; many extended family members and friends; her special friend, Dot King; and all the “McDonald’s friends.”
A funeral service and celebration of Atkins’ life were scheduled for Jan. 6, 2017, at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, Del., with the Revs. Robert Hudson and Duane Smith officiating.
