What the family would have said, if they had been allowed to: Muriel T. Smith died on Jan. 11, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del. She lived a long and interesting life. She was born on Feb. 12, 1927, and grew up in Wilmington, Del., and lived the last 16 years of her life in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
Smith met many people through her years working for the Diamond State Telephone Company in Wilmington, the GSA in Philadelphia, Pa., and the Rose Garden in Rehoboth, though at the end of her days, her favorite companion was her little dog, Remi.
Smith was preceded in death by her two husbands, her brother, her sister and three grandchildren. She is survived by her two daughters, Gayle Fitzgerald and her husband, Keith, of Rehoboth Beach, and Kandi Farren and her husband, Ray, of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; her seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild, with three more on the way.
All services were to be private. Arrangements were being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial contributions be made to either the Beebe Medical Foundation; 902 Savannah Rd.; Lewes, DE 19958, to honor the excellent care she received there, or to the Sunday Breakfast Mission; P.O. Box 352; Wilmington, DE 19899, one of her favorite charities. Condolences may be sent online at www.parsellfuneralhomes.com.
