Lower Sussex Little League signups under way
Sign-ups for the 2017 baseball and softball seasons are under way at Lower Sussex Little League, with online registration currently open at www.lowersussexlittleleague.com.
There will also be several walk-up registration dates held at the Pyle Center in Roxana, taking place on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The Pyle Center is located at 34467 Pyle Center Road.
Tickets on sale for IR soccer alumni mixer
The Indian River High School Soccer Boosters will host an alumni mixer for both the boys’ and girls’ soccer programs at the Frankford fire hall on Friday, Feb. 11.
The first annual “The Mixer” event will be catered by Hocker’s and will include a cash bar from Mio Fratello, live music from D.J. Wax, and several auctions to help raise money for the soccer programs at Indian River.
The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets to the event cost $25, with all proceeds going to the IRHS Soccer Boosters to help benefit the program. Shorebirds to hold ‘casting call’ on Feb. 7
The Delmarva Shorebirds, a Class-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, will be holding an open “casting call” on Tuesday, Feb. 7, for the 2017 season.
Gameday employment positions with the Shorebirds will be open across the board, ranging from “Sherman the Shorebird” to ushers, ticket-takers, parking attendants, amusements and bat boys/girls, as well as staff members for the box office, gift shop, press box, game video production, camera operators, video board and amusements.
The event will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md.
Spectra Food Services will also be hiring concession cashiers, concession cooks, concession hawkers, banquet servers and concession-stand leads.

IR wrestling makes it 9-0 with wins over Lake, North East
The Indian River High School wrestling team kept their perfect record intact this week, taking down Lake Forest 50-21 on Wednesday, Jan. 18, and following up with a 45-29 win over Maryland’s North East High School on Friday, Jan. 20.
The division win over Lake Forest put the Indians at 2-0 in the Henlopen South headed into their matchup against defending state champion Milford on Wednesday, Jan. 25, (after Coastal Point press time).
