Tickets still available for IR soccer alumni mixer

The Indian River High School Soccer Boosters will host an alumni mixer for both the boys’ and girls’ soccer programs at the Frankford fire hall on Friday, Feb. 11.

The first annual “The Mixer” event will be catered by Hocker’s and will include a cash bar from Mio Fratello, live music from D.J. Wax and several auctions to help raise money for the soccer programs at Indian River.

The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets to the event cost $25, with all proceeds going to the IRHS Soccer Boosters to help benefit the program. Indians 47, Delmar 36 (girls’ hoops)

The Indian River High School girls’ basketball team improved to 8-5 on the season with a 47-36 win over Delmar on Friday, Jan. 27.

Junior guard Fabrea McCray led the Indians in scoring during that matchup, finishing the night with 14 points. Junior guard Trayona Nock finished with 12 points and five rebounds, and sophomore center Julia Jordan and junior forward Braydee Whitman led the team in rebounds, with Jordan finishing with 14 rebounds and seven points, and Whitman tacking on 11 rebounds and four points.

The Indians were set to take on Cape Henlopen on Wednesday, Feb. 2, (after Coastal Point press time), before heading to Milford on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 6:15 p.m.

Sussex Central 47, Salesianum 14 (wrestling)

The Sussex Central High School wrestling team took down Salesianum 47-14 on Saturday, Jan. 28, improving to 5-1 on the season.

The only pin for the Golden Knights in the match came from senior Lucas Hudson over Salesianum’s Stephon Hutt at 182. Central was set to face Polytech on Wednesday, Feb. 2, (after Coastal Point press time), before traveling north to William Penn on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m.

Shorebirds to hold ‘casting call’ on Feb. 7

The Delmarva Shorebirds, a Class-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, will be holding an open “casting call” on Tuesday, Feb. 7, for the 2017 season.

Gameday employment positions with the Shorebirds will be open across the board, ranging from “Sherman the Shorebird” to ushers, ticket-takers, parking attendants, amusements and bat boys/girls, as well as staff members for the box office, gift shop, press box, game video production, camera operators, video board and amusements.

The event will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md.

Spectra Food Services will also be hiring concession cashiers, concession cooks, concession hawkers, banquet servers and concession-stand leads.
