Doris E. Ward, 89, of Selbyville, Del., died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. She was born in Baltimore, Md., daughter of the late Russell Breneman and Bertha (Thomas) Breneman.
Ward retired after 30 years working for AT&T and the former C&P Telephone Co. and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Before moving to the area, she was a member of Colonial Baptist Church in Baltimore, where she had taught nursey, primary and junior-high Sunday-school and was a Girls Auxiliary Leader. She had also been a counselor at Camp Wo-Me-To and a Billy Graham counselor. She was a charter member of Fenwick Island Baptist Church and had taught vacation Bible school. She was also a member of the Fenwick Island Ladies Lunch Bunch.
In addition to her parents, Ward was preceded in death by her husband Joseph R. Ward Sr, whom she married on April 2, 1948, and who died in 2006. She is survived by two daughters, Linda L. Adkins of Selbyville, and Jo Anne B. Fuller and her husband, Ken, of Perryville, Md.; a son, Joseph R. Ward Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Pasadena, Md.; five grandchildren, Joseph Ward III, Robert Ward, Nancy Hutchison, Betty Piner and Christina Adkins; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was scheduled for Jan. 27, 2017, at Fenwick Island Baptist Church, Selbyville, Del., with the Rev. Mike Fillis officiating, followed by burial in Sunset Memorial Park, Berlin, Md. Visitation was to take place beforehand, at Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville.
